With the arrival of winter came the perfect excuse to revive our support for New Zealand’s rural hotels and there are still a few to go in the Nelson Marlborough region before we have to start repeat visits. June saw us speaking with the new owners of the Linkwater Hotel, now renamed the Queen Charlotte Tavern. The building dates from the mid 19th century and is one of the three hotels that were established in 1864, when gold was discovered in the surrounding hills. Under its new ownership, the restaurant has quickly built up an excellent reputation and five star rating on Trip Advisor. Sounded like it was worth a look.
