The 16th new in New Zealand Porsche 356C was a C model Coupe with Chassis No. 126583 and it was registered on 3 December 1963 to Independent Motors Ltd, at 125 Wakefield Street, Wellington.  This dealership was originally appointed a Jaguar Distributor in 1949 and was owned by John (Jack) Shelly. 

With Porsche car distributors (NZ) Ltd being a Sub-Agent Distributor for Norman Hamilton (Pty) Ltd, Melbourne, (Porsche Master Agent for Australasia), Independent Motors Ltd in Wellington was appointed one of five Porsche retailers established throughout NZ, the others being in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill. 

This 356C was the third new Porsche ordered by Jack Shelly but the first registered in the name of his dealership as the first two were registered in his personal name...”J Shelly Wellington”.
